United Way will offer free tax assistance to Bartholomew County residents, beginning February 1, 2017.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and AARP programs offers free tax filing to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide confidential and secure basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Volunteer tax preparers also help to ensure that families and individuals receive qualified tax credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
Last year’s VITA program served over 1000 Bartholomew County residents and collectively saved taxpayers over $96,000 in fees.
VITA appointments will be conducted from February 1 – April 15. Multiple tax assistance sites are available throughout Bartholomew County including United Way of Bartholomew County, Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, and the America and Roby Anderson Center
Call 2-1-1 to make your VITA appointment starting January 23rd!
