How United Way of Bartholomew County Helps

United Way of Bartholomew County funds programs that fall into 4 major focus areas.
These include:

  • Children and Youth
Programs for youth which foster positive person growth

  • Emergencies
Programs which provide assistance for time-limited situations.

  • Strengthening Families
Programs enabling vulnerable people to develop their human potential to their fullest extent.

  • Seniors and Special Needs
Programs for seniors and those lacking the capability to become less dependent who need continuing help.

However, overall, United Way supports over 75 programs which help  more than 20,000 children and adults each year. Your gift supports people in emergency need, such as victims of domestic violence. It also helps families provide for everyday needs such as child care. It helps build good memories for youth as they participate in local camps and programs. Perhaps the United Way, through a donation you made, helped your neighbor, co-worker, or family member.

How United Way Works

United Way was founded to provide a simple and efficient way to contribute to charities. Through just one gift, you can touch the lives of thousands in a variety of ways. United Way ensures the accountability of your gift through the Citizens Review process. Both the Citizen's Review committee and the United Way Board of Directors are made up of volunteers from the community

Each year over fifty experienced volunteers, who are donors themselves, spend hundreds of hours visiting agencies and seeing firsthand how people and programs are working to improve lives. Through these visits and a thorough review of agency budgets, they make decisions about the best use of United Way dollars. Your support of the United Way builds a caring community.

You Make the Difference

Here at home as well as across the country, health and human services budgets are being squeezed while demand increases. To provide adequate assistance to those in need throughout our community, the United Way needs your support. Your donation counts, along with your volunteer time and effort. Let your heart help you decide which agency or cause might be right for you. The United Way's Volunteer Action Center will be happy to help you consider the choices available.
