Foundation For Youth - Basketball Coaches, Asst. Coaches, & Scorekeepers

Do you love basketball?  Interested in mentoring our youth grades K - 12?  We need you!  Basketball at FFY teach kids the fundamentals of the game, the importance of teamwork, & the value of good sportsmanship, life skill lessons that stick with them for years to come.  Be a positive influence, and volunteer!  All volunteers must be screened and a background checked prior to volunteering.

Hours: 2 hours, 2x/week M-F

Foundation For Youth - Boys & Girls Club – Afterschool Homework Tutor

Seeking mentors to assist with general homework help for club members of all ages, delivering a level of understanding that may correspond with each individual member’s age and personality. Homework help is essential to help our youth succeed at an early age. All volunteers must be screened and background checked prior to volunteering.

Hours: Min. 1 hr., Afterschool M – F 3p – 6p, and/or school breaks M – F 8a – 6p

Time commitment: 12 weeks

Foundation For Youth – Boys and Girls Club – STEM Teacher

BGC is seeking volunteers with a background in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics to be part of a team to teach to its members, grades K-6.  Collaborate and help develop lessons. Share your excitement about STEM to the youth of Columbus and open the doors to endless possibilities. All volunteers must be screened and a background check ran prior to volunteering.

Hours: 1 hr. or more, Afterschool M – F 3p – 6p, and/or school breaks M – F 8a – 6p

Thrive Alliance

Working w/ Teens: Teen Talk group meets once a week at 4:30pm (when school is not in session) or 1:00pm (when school is in session).  Any adults who would like to demonstrate a youth-related hobby or activity. They also are interested in sports, crafts/ art work, any hands-on activities or games.

Providing snacks/ drinks, prizes, incentives for teens who attend group.

Thrive Alliance

Working w/ Young Children & Parents: We have 77 children under age 13 currently living at Cambridge Sq. Apartments. They are not all together at the same time due to after school tutoring so can do smaller group activities or break up by ages (toddlers, Pre-K, grade school).

Story time; they love to have someone read to them or have them read to you. We love guest readers and especially if you dress as characters!

Games, crafts, indoor/ outdoor activities. We have a very nice playground & lots of sidewalk surrounding the whole property, and small empty field for activities.

Modeling positive interactions for parents.

Advocates for Children

Court-Appointed Special Advocate volunteers needed for case work and court case preparation. The average CASA volunteer gives 10 to 15 hours per month, working with everyone involved in an abused or neglected child’s case and preparing reports for the court. The only requirements are that you be 21 or older and have a passion for serving children.

Book Buddies program*

Volunteers are needed an hour a week to listen to a child's reading in the 12 public elementary schools. A one-hour training session and background check is provided. An hour a week can change a life forever.

Community Education Coalition

Seeks help with the Latino Mentor Program which needs people to serve as volunteer mentors.  Mentors partner with guidance office staff to support Latino students in completing high school successfully and assist students and their families to understand and support the college-entry process.  Community volunteers must complete an application and pass a criminal background check.

Foundation For Youth – Boys & Girls Club – Healthy Habits Cooking Instruction

We are looking for passionate and reliable practitioners of the culinary arts to instruct our Club members in safe and healthy cooking habits.  Lead a class of 10-20 members, ages 5 to 14 in preparation of nutritious dishes and safe kitchen practices.  Must be knowledgeable about culinary processes, and able to work effectively with children. All volunteers screened and background checked prior to volunteering.

Hours: 2 - 4 hours/week, T &/or Th 4P – 6P

Spanish Learning Center Teacher’s Asst

Seeking a bilingual TA to help kids ages 4-12 to learn the Spanish language and culture through full immersion.  Supports teachers with right environment policy so no physical punishment or verbal abuse is conducted in the program.   Be able to convey information based on student’s learning style; excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrate patience so as to be able to work with different skill levels, abilities, and backgrounds.

Hours: 9-11AM

Time commitment: Saturdays during the school year

Foundation For Youth - Boys & Girls Club – STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

Foundation For Youth - Columbus Youth Camp – Maintenance & Scrapbooking - Group Volunteer Opportunities*

We need community members who are interested in working outdoors to help with a variety of projects.   We need volunteers to assist with trail maintenance, repair bridges, or help clean up cabins for next season. 

We are also looking for a scrap booker(s) who could organize historical camp memorabilia into a creative scrapbook.  Make a home for CYC stories and memories.  Help us document our years, seasons, changes, and milestones!

McDowell Education Center*

Volunteer tutors needed to work with struggling adult readers.  High school students are welcome and although most of our volunteers focus on reading, a need for math, science, and/or tutors for English language learners are also needed.
