211 - United Way of Bartholomew County

Christmas registration assistance needed.  Answer the phone and enter children/family Christmas assistance information into the computer. We register for a number of local programs, Cheer Fund, Shop with a Cop, Toys for Tots, St Batholomew, Community Center of Hope, and Love Chapel.

Bartholomew Historical Society*

Volunteers needed for cleaning museum, setting up exhibits and data entry.

Time: 2-3 hours/week. Tues-Thursday 10am-12pm, 1pm-4pm.

Calling new and returning teams to build gigantic, creative structures made entirely out of canned food.  In order to combat hunger, all cans are donated at the end of the competition to local food pantries including Love Chapel, Salvation Army, Hope Community Center, East and North High School.  Please contact us and start your team today!

Columbus Firemans Cheerfund

The Cheerfund provides a box of toys at Christmas time for approx. 1200 children annually.  Volunteers are needed to sort new and gently used toys, preparing, boxing up, distributing and transporting toys to families.

Columbus Bike Co-Op

12 volunteers of all skill-levels including bike mechanics needed to help Earn-a-Bike participants build bikes, help people who come in to do repairs, fix shop bikes, scrap old bikes, be a greeter or a monitor during shop hours, and help with local events such as valet bike parking at the farmers market

Hours: Sun 2-5pm and Mon 4-7pm

Time commitment: 3 hours every month

Community Center of Hope*

2-3 Volunteers needed to assist clients in the Food Pantry, stock shelves and perform basic housekeeping duties.

Columbus Youth Camp

Groups of volunteers needed to chop firewood, clear trails, landscape, paint and clean cabins. Projects vary by season.

Columbus Animal Care Services*

Volunteers are needed for tasks such as walking dogs, socializing cats, occasional drives to rescues, cleaning, special events and larger projects throughout the year such as gardening, mulching etc.  Mid-day volunteers especially needed.

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10-5, Saturday 10-12. Closed Thursdays, Sundays and Holidays

Time commitment: Varies, two hour time periods are typical

Columbus Salvation Army

We are looking for volunteers to assist at our Gleaner’s Food Trucks.  We have a truck the 2nd Tuesday and the 2nd Friday of the month.  Tuesdays are 1p-3p at Cummins Fuel Systems and Fridays are 10a-12p at The Salvation Army.

Time Commitment: 2 hours per location

Columbus Salvation Army*

We are looking for volunteers to assist in our food pantry, sort and stock food, and janitorial needs

Time: Monday’s 9a-12p, Tuesday’s 2p-6p, Wednesday & Thursdays 9a-12p.

Columbus Indiana Philharmonic*

Volunteers are needed for concerts at Columbus North High School.

Dates: 2019, February 2, March 2, April 20.

Time: 7:30 pm

Volunteers are needed for concerts at Columbus East High School.

Date: December 8

Time: Concerts at 3 pm and 7:30 pm (volunteers need to come at 2pm and 6:30 pm)

Volunteers would be needed to:

1 .Pass out program books.

2. Usher people to their seats and provide assistance as needed.

3. Check coats both before and after concerts.

Volunteers would then be entitled to stay and listen to the concert for which they are volunteering.

Three volunteers to come and deep clean our kitchen that is used for cooking classes for clients.

Just Friends Adult Day Service

Volunteers needed to function as either Senior Companion (assisting participants with activities, conversation and games) or Walking Coach (willing to walk with participants within Mill Race Center) during inclement weather and outside the facility in nice weather.

Volunteers needed to tend to the garden.

Time: Anytime during open hours 7:30am - 5:30pm, Monday-Friday in 1-2 hour sessions.

Love Chapel

This food pantry serves more than 4,000 Bartholomew County residents each month.  Volunteers are needed to help with donation pickups, janitorial, food stocking and sorting, client intake and pantry shopping, information and technology, warehouse host, and other areas of the nonprofit outreach. 

Hours:  Monday through Saturday, 8:30a.m. – 12:30p.m.

Time Commitment: Each shift 4 hours. Volunteers may work as many shifts as is convenient for them.

Thrive Alliance is a non-profit organization that provides a wide range of social and human services to residents of south central Indiana.  Volunteer Opportunities include helping with office clerical tasks (filing, copying, data entry and making phone calls). VITA, United Way of Bartholomew County

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program assists individuals and families with income under $54,000 for free.  Volunteer tax counselors and volunteer greeters are needed to assist with a very successful program in supporting the financial stability of our community. 

When: Currently accepting registrations of volunteers, training starts in December, Tax season runs from February - April 2019
