Volunteers Needed for Free Tax Preparation

United Way of Bartholomew County is currently seeking volunteers to serve as tax preparers and greeters for the VITA/AARP Tax Assistance programs from February to April 2018. Last year’s programs served over one thousand Bartholomew County residents and saved local taxpayers over $95,000 in fees.

Students, retirees, finance professionals and anyone with an interest in financial wellness are encouraged to volunteer.

Those interested in volunteering should contact Bonnie Morrison at United Way of Bartholomew County at (812) 375-2214 or bmorrison@uwbarthco.org to register for VITA/AARP training.

The VITA/AARP tax programs offer free tax help to Bartholomew County residents, persons with disabilities, elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide confidential and secure basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Volunteer tax preparers also help to ensure that families and individuals receive qualified tax credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

VITA/AARP tax assistance sites will open in Bartholomew County in February 2018. The Free Income Tax Assistance programs will help United Way to forward its mission of increasing the financial stability of Bartholomew County residents.
