Make Your Giving Go Further
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a simple, flexible charitable giving account that allows you to support the causes you care about most while making a lasting impact in our community. Through a DAF, you can involve your family, company, or organization in meaningful philanthropy while maximizing the benefits of charitable giving.
Benefits of a Donor-Advised Fund
When you give through a DAF, you can:
- Establish a flexible vehicle for annual charitable giving
- Enjoy a more tax-efficient and cost-effective alternative to a private foundation
- Receive a charitable income tax deduction in the year your gift is made
- Grow your charitable assets tax-free over time
How a Donor-Advised Fund Works
-
1. Make a Gift
Contribute cash, stock, or other assets to your donor-advised fund through a sponsoring organization.
-
2. Grow Your Impact
Assets in your DAF can be invested and grow tax-free.
-
3. Recommend Grants
Recommend gifts from your DAF to support organizations and causes that matter to you.
If you already have a donor-advised fund, you can recommend a grant to United Way at any time. This flexible giving option allows you to align your charitable goals with meaningful local impact.
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
If you are age 70½ or older, you may also give directly from your IRA through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). These gifts count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) and are excluded from your taxable income.
A QCD is a smart and simple way to reduce taxes while supporting the causes you care about most.
