Within United Way, groups of like-minded people are inspiring their peers to make a difference.
Together, we are more than the sum of our parts. Together, we can change the world.
The United Way Impact Commons is a modern, unifying identity for the volunteer leadership groups formerly known as the Philanthropic Societies. These community champions contribute time, talent, voice, and resources to amplify and create lasting change. Working alongside United Way’s leadership and guided by real‑time community insight, Women United, Lead United, United for Youth, and Changemakers United operate as a coordinated network advancing a thriving, resilient, and equitable community.
Women United supports single mothers and their children through one‑time financial crises. This year, the group raised $14,900 through donor gifts and grants and helped 5 families, delivering rapid, compassionate support - from medical assistance and emergency car repairs to childcare and housing stability - to prevent short‑term challenges from becoming long‑term setbacks. Their work restores stability, dignity, and hope when families need it most.
LEAD United addresses the complex, upstream nature of homelessness with timely, last‑resort assistance that strengthens housing stability and prevents short‑term hardships from escalating into displacement. Through donor contributions and the annual Chips for Change charity event, the group raised $18,153 and helped 6 families remain safely housed – assisting with first month’s rent, and eviction‑prevention support where they have the greatest impact.
United for Youth - formerly Emerging Leaders United - renamed to align with its mission of building dignity, belonging, and confidence for young people. The group removes barriers that leave students feeling unprepared or unseen and fosters environments where every young person feels supported and able to thrive.
Changemakers United convenes former board members who give generously as well as contribute deep leadership experience, institutional knowledge, and strategic insight. Working alongside United Way’s President and Board, they helped shape the new three‑year strategic plan - providing guidance that preserves institutional memory while identifying emerging needs and opportunities to strengthen long‑term sustainability.
Together, these four groups comprise the United Way Impact Commons - a collaborative engine that stabilizes families, prevents homelessness, uplifts youth, and guides United Way’s future.
