President's Note

President's Note

I am excited to share the 2022 annual report with you, where I hope you will see the tremendous impact you had on our community in 2022.

For Campaign 2022, we began a mission to lift children out of poverty.  The latest census data tells us that 1 in 5 children right here in Bartholomew County lives in poverty. That number was staggering in a community that gives, volunteers, and advocates so much for each other.

When thinking of that number, I couldn’t help but think of what 1 in 5 looks like and how different those children’s lives might be from my own.  A hungry child cannot learn. A child worried about having a home of their own will not be able to concentrate on critical educational curriculum. A child who doesn’t have access to quality out-of-school programming and early childhood interventions is put at a disadvantage that will affect them for the rest of their lives.  This vicious cycle is how generational poverty is born and perpetuated.

With your help, we are starting to put an end to this cycle. At United Way, we believe no child should be at a disadvantage simply because of the economic circumstances they were born in.  We asked you to help us.

As always, you stepped up.

Your support of our campaign began lifting children out of poverty by supporting education initiatives from cradle to adulthood.  By investing in United Way, you invested in early childhood education, afterschool programs, and job skills training. You helped ensure individuals have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in school and in the workplace. This, in turn, helps to increase their earning potential and improve their economic mobility for generations. Your support helped individuals reach their full potential.

Through collaboration, partnerships, and programs, we have continued to address systemic issues that contribute to poverty. By advocating for community changes and partnering with organizations to create sustainable solutions, United Way is working to create a more just society where everyone can thrive.

Thank you for being at the heart of this important work.

Your support has allowed us to create lasting change that will make Bartholomew County stronger for generations to come.

Thank you always for your effort to LIVE UNITED.
